CLIMATE STRATEGY
01 Environmental Responsibility
Creating Technology for a More Sustainable Future
At NexGen Wafer Systems, we believe that high-performance semiconductor technology and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand. Our climate strategy is built on two core pillars that guide our actions across product development and corporate operations:
1. Sustainable Tool Development
We continuously enhance our wafer processing systems with sustainability as a key design principle. Our innovations support the next generation of power device manufacturing while helping reduce the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of our equipment.
Through transparent Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data for our MG21, MG22 and Sereno tools, we enable customers to make informed, sustainability-driven decisions.
2. Corporate Environmental Responsibility
Sustainability at NexGen extends far beyond our products. We systematically improve our corporate environmental performance through a comprehensive environmental programme — an integral part of our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified Integrated Management System.
Our initiatives span infrastructure upgrades, energy efficiency measures and employee-driven actions, all aimed at continuously reducing our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF).
02 Sustainability Through Action, Innovation and Engagement
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) & Environmental Benefits of MG21, MG22 & Sereno.

We are one of the few companies in the semiconductor equipment industry to publish full PCF and LCA data for our tools. This level of transparency allows customers and stakeholders to evaluate environmental impact based on comparable, verified information.
Understanding Our Emissions
We assess indirect emissions across three main categories:
-
Material: Components and process chemicals used in tool manufacturing
-
Energy: Electricity for manufacturing, district heating at our Villach site, and energy used in upstream material production
-
Transport: Logistics and delivery of parts by suppliers
At our Villach production site, no Scope 1 emissions are produced, as our processes involve no on-site combustion or direct greenhouse gas sources.
Our emissions result exclusively from Scope 2 (renewable electricity and district heating) and Scope 3 (materials and logistics).
Where Our Emissions Occur
Thanks to green electricity and district heating, energy contributes at most one-third to the total PCF of our systems. The majority of emissions originate from upstream material production and part deliveries.
Note: PCF calculations are based on internal data, public datasets and industry-average assumptions. Results will be refined as more detailed data becomes available.

03 Strengthening Our Environmental Impact
Continuous Improvement of Our Corporate Environmental Performance.
Our commitment to sustainability is embedded into every aspect of our operations and underlined by our ISO 14001 certification. We integrate environmental considerations into all business decisions and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards, legal requirements and ethical principles.
Key Actions Driving Our Environmental Performance
-
62.4 kWp photovoltaic system supplying renewable energy to our Villach facility
-
Full conversion to LED lighting, reducing electricity consumption while ensuring high workplace quality
-
Continuous energy-efficiency improvements per tool produced, supporting sustainable growth
-
Electric company vehicles for reduced-emission business travel
Beyond infrastructure, our employees play an essential role. Through resource-conscious behaviour and continuous improvement suggestions, they help drive our environmental progress and support Europe’s climate targets: ≥50% emissions reduction by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050.
We are proud to provide high-performance wet chemical wafer edging and cleaning technologies that deliver both technological excellence and measurable sustainability benefits.
